Benedict VII

Chosen by Otto II, Benedict became pope when Sicco, Otto's representative in Rome, vetoed the election of Boniface VII in 974. Four years later, Boniface returned to Rome and took the throne from Benedict, who sought Otto's help in regaining his see. In 981, Benedict was in charge of Rome and condemned simony. The remainder of his papacy, which ended with his death in 983, was peaceful.
